Wiley Integrates WileyPlus Middle East Editions into the Blackboard Learn Platform

John Wiley & Sons, has announced further enhancement to the WileyPLUS integration with Blackboard through the addition of WileyPLUS Middle East Editions into the Blackboard Learn platform at the Ankabut Users’ Meeting on 18 – 19 September at United Arab Emirates University, Al-Ain, UAE.

Designed to meet varying levels of digital usage, the integration of WileyPLUS, Wiley’s research-based, online teaching and learning environment, and Blackboard provides instructors with greater flexibility in course design and gives their students an easy-to-use, singular experience for navigating learning materials.

WileyPLUS has been customized to help students learn concepts in key subject areas by using Arabic examples and context to help them solve difficult ideas. Also showcasing at the event are over 200 English-language titles available through WileyPLUS, covering Accounting, Business, Engineering, Mathematics and the Sciences.

The first WileyPLUS Middle East Editions course (Chemistry) is now available, and followed by three more courses (Calculus, Algebra and Physics) in October 2012. This major initiative to localize Wiley’s core textbooks in their digital virtual environment has made Wiley’s products and services more valuable and accessible to lecturers and students. Wiley has worked closely with professors to identify and develop an array of materials, including text, video, exercises and interactive simulations, needed for better student comprehension in Arabic.

“With more than 2 million students demonstrating the efficacy of WileyPLUS worldwide in English, we are pleased to be able to offer Arabic localization,” said Philip Kisray VP of International Development, Wiley.

“WileyPLUS helps achieve better student engagement and learning outcomes through the use of Arabic annotations to reinforce concepts and context, helping students get the best experience possible.”

“The selection of parts of a text, combined with additional resources such as tests, videos, and case studies allows us to both focus the learning closely to our course outlines and learning outcomes and also promote consistent, in scope delivery across our system of Colleges,” said Nick Nunnington, Associate Vice Provost – Professional Programs at Higher Colleges of Technology, Abu Dhabi.

“We now look forward to working with Wiley on the next exciting step of our journey, the full integration of publishers’ content into our Blackboard Learn 9.1 learning management system.”
