Egypt launches Govtech Innovation Lab to empower startups

Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has launched the “Govtech Innovation Lab” initiative to empower innovative startups interested in government technology and improve the quality of digital government services.

The initiative is being implemented with the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) on behalf of the German government, in collaboration with a group of leading companies such as Flat6Labs, Robusta, Untap, WeCodeForYou, and zero360, in addition to AWS, Huawei, IBM, Microsoft, Redhat, SAP, and Software AG. The Information Technology Industry Development Agency participates in implementing the initiative as a strategic partner.

The initiative targets startups seeking to address societal challenges and develop innovative solutions to deliver government services. Its objectives include:

  • Creating a supportive environment for the growth of startups in government technology.
  • Improving the quality of services provided to citizens.
  • Enhancing Egypt’s position in global digital transformation indicators.

The initiative’s program lasts from three to five months and includes:

  • Business acceleration program: Facilitating startups’ access to intensive training, mentoring, and networking opportunities.
  • Enhancing collaboration: Among startups, citizens, government entities, and private sector companies to design and implement customized solutions to meet societal needs.
