World’s 1st LGBT+ cryptocurrency, Maricoin launched

Maricoin, the world’s 1st LGBT+ cryptocurrency launched yesterday in Madrid, Spain after a weeklong pilot involving 10 businesses. The Maricoin aim to change the world by harnessing the LGBT+ community’s economic power.

“Since we move this economy, why shouldn’t our community profit from it, instead of banks, insurance companies or big corporations that often don’t help LGBT+ people?” said co-founder, Juan Belmonte.

The virtual currency is expected to start trading soon and that will pave the way for it to be used as a means of payment at LGBT-friendly businesses and events worldwide.

Maricoin is backed by US-based venture capital firm Borderless Capital, and the Chief Executive and the co-founder for Maricoin, Francisco Alvarez claimed that already there are 8,000 people on a waiting list seeking to buy maricoins before the currency starts trading.

Under their plans, the LGBT+ cryptocurrency will be accepted as payment in businesses – from restaurants and cafes to shops and hotels – that have signed an “equality manifesto”.
