A new women’s network has been launched in the new Central Business District of Abu Dhabi: the Central Business District Network of Women (CBDNOW).
The CBDNOW network targets women working in Sowwah Square on Al Maryah Island in the heart of Abu Dhabi’s Central Business District. The network already has 125+ members and counting, representing a number of different organisations situated in Sowwah Square.
The CBDNOW mission is “the professional development and advancement of women in Sowwah Square through networking, exchanging ideas, sharing best practices and fostering community engagement in Abu Dhabi”.
CBDNOW is structured around a steering committee which determines its key areas of activity and collectively agrees its initiatives. The CBDNOW steering committee consists of representatives from companies including Clifford Chance LLP, General Electric, Gulf Capital and Mubadala GE Capital PJSC.
The first event of CBDNOW was a networking evening held on Wednesday 26 June at the Rosewood Hotel. The event attracted widespread interest and was attended by female representatives from more than 15 organisations based in Sowwah Square.
One attendee, on speaking of the evening, said, “The level of professionalism conducted throughout the course of the evening demonstrated how committed the network really is to the advancement of women. I am expecting good things to come, and am very much keen to be a part, of the CBDNOW to further that cause.”
Going forwards, CBDNOW are planning to host quarterly events which will include inviting key note speakers to present, hosting skills-based workshops and organising community events.
Tori Single, Senior Associate at Clifford Chance and one of the steering committee members, added, “The establishment of a network for the development of professional women working in Sowwah Square is a fantastic platform for females to come together to exchange ideas and information. I am very proud to play a part in this initiative and am convinced that we at CBDNOW can really make a difference.”
