IFZA provides a world-class environment to entrepreneurs in Dubai

Adam Taylor, Director of Marketing at IFZA, highlights the emergence of UAE as a dynamic business hub with a thriving startup ecosystem and how IFZA offers global entrepreneurs a streamlined and investor-friendly environment.

How would you describe the startup landscape in the region, and what role are you playing in promoting startups?
The UAE has emerged as a dynamic business hub and provides a thriving ecosystem for startups and SMEs. Recent regulatory measures, such as offering golden visas and allowing full ownership of businesses, have further enabled entrepreneurs to set up businesses successfully here.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates ranked fourth globally in the Global Entrepreneurship Index, a notable achievement reflecting the nation’s efforts and recent regulatory framework that incubates and accelerates entrepreneurship. As part of its national entrepreneurship agenda, the UAE aims to become the entrepreneurial nation of choice, home to 20 unicorn startups worth $1 billion each by 2031, reaffirming its commitment to further improving the startup ecosystem and paving the way for success.

IFZA provides a world-class environment to support the entrepreneurship sector, helping new businesses set up shop and combining commercial and professional activities under a single license. IFZA combines its impressive administrative power and state-of-the-art facilities with our specialized business formation services, ensuring an unparalleled encompassing web of knowledge, networks and expertise. Through the IFZA Academy, we train our Professional Partners to uphold our standards and values and the UAE’s Free Zone landscape while offering startups their complementary services, all in one place.

Can you provide details about the infrastructure and facilities available for startups, including office spaces, co-working areas, and access to necessary amenities?
We provide an exceptional range of commercial office spaces for use in Dubai, designed to meet the needs of businesses throughout their different stages of growth. Our flexi desk facility has a shared workstation, which is perfect for a startup entrepreneur. We also have dedicated office spaces provided for a predetermined duration within a one-year period. The IFZA Business Park features a selection of fully serviced meeting rooms and event spaces. The options range from small meeting rooms for 4-6 people to an outdoor event terrace for up to 200 guests.

Are there streamlined processes for startups to register and establish their presence within your free zone ecosystem?
We offer global entrepreneurs a streamlined and investor-friendly environment. We offer customized solutions that cater to the needs of medium—and large-sized corporations looking to establish or relocate and expand their business in Dubai. At IFZA, we have designed the process so that business owners do not need to be physically present in the UAE. We also do not request an NOC from the visa sponsor, which makes the process more efficient.

Does the free zone ecosystem offer any financial support programs or grants specifically tailored to startups?
We are in the process of designing a program that offers entrepreneurs and early-stage startups the essential tools, services and solutions to propel them on their journey of growth.

Are there industry-specific resources, expertise, or mentorship programs available for startups within the free zone ecosystem?
We have the IFZA Academy, a first-of-its-kind training institute in the region, dedicated to providing reliable industry knowledge, skills, and experience to IFZA partners. With a dynamic, technology-driven approach, we deliver competency-based training tailored to meet the demands of today’s business environment.

Our long-term vision is to create a culture of continuous learning and development, ensuring mutual success for IFZA and its professional partners. As one of the key pillars strengthening IFZA’s business-to-business (B2B) model, we have supported the growth of over 1500 professional partners in the past few years.

How does the free zone ecosystem facilitate international connectivity for startups, such as access to global markets, partnerships, or collaboration with international organizations?
At IFZA, we are dedicated to fostering a dynamic ecosystem that empowers startups to thrive globally. Our free zone community acts as a gateway to international and local connectivity, offering a multitude of opportunities for startups to expand their horizons and access global markets.

Through strategic partnerships and initiatives, we facilitate seamless access to international markets for startups within our ecosystem. Our network of global partners and international organizations provides invaluable resources and support, enabling startups to forge partnerships, collaborate on innovative projects, and explore new business opportunities worldwide.

Furthermore, our location in Dubai serves as a strategic advantage, offering startups unrivalled access to key markets across the globe. With state-of-the-art infrastructure and a thriving ecosystem of innovators, IFZA is uniquely positioned to facilitate international connectivity and drive the success of startups on a global scale. While some of our partners are active globally, we focus on giving startups access to a network in the UAE’s local market.

What resources and support does the free zone ecosystem provide to promote technological innovation and R&D activities among startups?
One key resource we provide is access to a diverse network of technology partners who offer specialized support and expertise to startups. These partners encompass a wide range of industries, including software development, cloud services, and more. In addition to our technology partners, we collaborate closely with leading universities and research institutions to promote R&D activities among startups.

What long-term support and resources are available to startups to ensure their continued success beyond the initial stages?
At IFZA, we understand that the journey of a startup extends far beyond the initial stages, which is why we are committed to providing long-term support and resources to ensure the continued success of startups within our ecosystem.

Once startups become part of our ecosystem, they gain access to a wealth of long-term support initiatives and resources designed to support their growth and sustainability. One key benefit of being part of our ecosystem is access to a growing network of partners for life. Through strategic partnerships with industry leaders, investors, corporate partners, and fellow startups, our ecosystem offers unparalleled opportunities for collaboration, networking, and business development.
